SANTA ROSA – On Saturday, June 13th, Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition (SCBC) hosts its popular annual “Bike Swap” at the Santa Rosa Veterans Building. The event offers bike riders (or riders-to-be) of all ages and levels a place to find that gem of a bike, used or rare parts and gear, bike clothes and bike-themed arts and crafts items. Vendors will sell a range of items from brand new to lightly used to very used – the cutting edge to the classic. “The swap is a treasure trove for all things bike,” says Sandra Lupien, Events Coordinator, “We’ll have used vendors and new vendors bringing a dazzling array of bikes, gear, parts, and other stuff you’ll want to get your hands on. We’ll be next to the Farmer’s Market, blocks from Harmony Festival – the Swap is part of an awesome weekend in Santa Rosa.”
Community Bikes (a program of Lite Initiatives) is SCBC’s partner for the 2009 Bike Swap.
This year, SCBC adds a new component to the Swap: a Kids Bike Safety Skills “Rodeo.” A Bike Rodeo offers children and opportunity to learn how to ride safely on a skills course, offers information on the importance of bicycle helmets and their proper fit, provides a wealth of information and resources, and is a great time to boot! SCBC’s partners for this Rodeo are: Santa Rosa Police Departments Bike & Pedestrian Safety Outreach Program, Community Action Partnership, California Office of Traffic Safety, and The Bike Peddler and Trek Store Santa Rosa.
