Zumba to School?

Wednesday morning, kids strapped into cars will envy their classmates who walk, cycle or, in one Southwest Santa Rosa neighborhood, Zumba-dance to school.
For international Walk and Roll to School Day, students at 72 Sonoma County schools will get some exercise and fresh air by passing on car rides. Watch for community leaders who’ll glow like headlamps as they lead “walking school buses” and “bike trains” of proudly self-propelled youngsters.
The idea behind the day (sonomasaferoutes.org) is to get kids of all ages thinking about how much nicer, safer and healthier life would be if more people eschewed automobiles and walked or biked to school and work.
This should be one of the great sights Wednesday morning: Fitness and martial-arts instructor Gerardo Sanchez will meet up with Sheppard School students outside the Dollar Tree store on Sebastopol Road and they’ll walk-dance the Zumba right down West Street.
