March (& Roll) for Miles Challenge

JOIN US IN CELEBRATING MARCH (& Roll) FOR MILES MONTH THIS MARCH! 
 

This March, we challenge you to get outside and march - or roll - for miles! Choose a different place to travel on as many days as you can during the month of March, and record where you went and how many miles you traveled on our March (& Roll) for Miles Tracking Sheet. All outdoor miles must have a specific destination such as a school, park, neighbor's house, store, street corner, or even a favorite tree! Find out your mileage by using Google maps or asking an adult, or use our minutes/miles converter. Your submitted March (& Roll) for Miles Tracking Sheet is an entry for a drawing for a fabulous pair of sneakers! 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN MARCH (& Roll) FOR MILES MONTH
 

1. JOIN US ON WALK & ROLL TO ANYWHERE DAY! 
 

  • On ANY ONE DAY during the FIRST FULL WEEK OF MARCH (March 1-8th), choose a destination to to walk, bike, scooter or skateboard to. It can be ANY destination, whether it is to your school campus, a local park, a store, a friend's house, or just a walk around the neighborhood and back to your home!

 

 

  • Your survey results will be shared with your school to discover how many kids walked & rolled, how far kids from your school traveled, and which teacher had the highest percentage of student's who walked & rolled that week!  The teacher with the highest percentage of participating students will win a $50.00 gift card to their local business of choice! 

 

2. COMPLETE AND SUBMIT OUR MARCH (& Roll) FOR MILES TRACKING SHEET FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A PAIR OF SNEAKERS OF YOUR CHOICE! 
 

MARCH (&ROLL) FOR MILES TRACKING SHEET INSTRUCTIONS: 
 

  • Download the March (& Roll) for Miles Tracking Sheet:  English (Fillable) PDF   Spanish (Fillable) PDF  English JPEG  Spanish JPEG
  • Walk, bike, scoot or skate on as many days as you are able to during the month of March, and enter your mileage to/from your chosen destination for each day.
  • If you are unable to walk/roll outside or to figure out your mileage, use our "mileage converter" to determine how many miles you moved. 
  • Submit to Safe Routes to School (may be submitted via email or the mail), must be received by Monday, April 5th.
     

ALL March Challenge submissions will be entered into a drawing for a fabulous pair of sneakers of the winner's choice.

Winners will be announced in April and Sneakers will be delivered directly to winners.

February Walk and Roll for Our HeARTS Challenge

JOIN US IN CELEBRATING WALK & ROLL FOR OUR HeARTS MONTH THIS FEBRUARY! 
 

We may not be walking or rolling to school right now, but physical activity is even more essential to health during these challenging times! This February, we challenge you to get outside, explore your neighborhoods, and stretch your artistic muscles by drawing about what you LOVE about Walking & Rolling, for a chance to win a $50.00 gift card to a local Art Supply store and/or be featured in a printed "Walk & Roll for Our HeARTS" calendar!  

 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN WALK & ROLL FOR OUR HeARTS MONTH

 

1.   JOIN US ON WALK & ROLL TO ANYWHERE DAY! 
 

  • On ANY ONE DAY during the FIRST WEEK OF FEBRUARY (Feb 1st-7th), choose a destination to to walk, bike, scooter or skateboard to. It can be ANY destination, whether it is to your school campus, a local park, a store, a friend's house, or just a walk around the neighborhood and back to your home!

 

 

  • Your survey results will be shared with your school to discover how many kids walked & rolled, how far kids from your school traveled, and which teacher had the highest percentage of student's who walked & rolled that week!  The teacher with the highest percentage of participating students will win a $50.00 gift card to their local business of choice!
     

2.  DRAW A PICTURE DEMONSTRATING WHY YOU LOVE WALKING AND/OR ROLLING. Your picture should illustrate why or how it is fun and/or healthy for our hearts, minds and bodies. Then, submit your drawing to SRTS for a chance to win a $50.00 gift card to a local art supply store, and/or be featured in a "Walk & Roll for our HeARTS" printed wall calendar. 

 

WALK & ROLL FOR OUR HeARTS CONTEST INSTRUCTIONS: 
 

Download Contest Flyer & Instructions in English & Spanish 

  • Put your best effort into an original picture illustrating why walking and/or rolling is fun and/or healthy for our hearts, minds and bodies. 
  • Artwork must be 8.5"x11", and must be landscape orientation
  • All mediums are welcome: drawing, painting, mixed media, digital illustration, etc. If utilizing mixed media/collage elements, no more than 20% of collage materials may be from newspapers, magazines, books or other materials pre-printed with text or designs (such as scrapbook paper)
  • Submit a high-resolution, scanned copy in JPG or PDF format to saferoutes@bikesonoma.org OR mail to Safe Routes to School, Sonoma County Bicycle Coalition, PO Box 3088, Santa Rosa, CA 95402-3088
  • Include your name, school name, grade level, and homeroom teacher, and a way to contact you (phone or email) 
  • Artwork will be judged on the following criteria: creativity and originality, clarity of art's message to communicating the theme, quality and effort put into illustration, and representation of diversity and inclusivity. 
  • All entries must be received by Friday, March 5th, 2021 
     

ALL February Challenge Submissions will be entered into a drawing for a $50.00 Art Supply Store gift card.  Select submissions will be chosen to be featured in our Walk & Roll for Our HeARTS Printed Wall Calendar. Wall Calendars will be given to the winning students, the teacher of the winning students, and the principal of the winning students.

January Idle-Free Sonoma County Challenge

JOIN US IN PLEDGING TO BE IDLE-FREE THIS JANUARY! 
 

This January we challenge you to be Idle-Free with Safe Routes to Schools! That means, turn off your car engine when waiting more than 30-seconds.

Due to the holiday break, we will not hold a Walk & Roll to Anywhere event or student-activity challenge.  Instead, we encourage families and school personnel to sign our online “Idle Free Sonoma County Pledge.”

Parents/families, teachers, and school staff who sign the pledge by Sunday, January 31, 2021 will be entered into a drawing for one of eight $50.00 gift cards to a local business of the winner’s choice.
 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IDLE-FREE MONTH: 
 

  • Get educated about the benefits of turning off your engine when waiting more than 30-seconds!  
    • Read this Facts About Idling Fact Sheet in English or Spanish  and/or read/share a shorter Instagram-size Fact Sheet in English or Spanish
    • For more education & fun, read and color the Things Your Family Can Do for Clean Air info & coloring page in English or Spanish
       
  • Sign the Idle-Free Bay Sonoma County Pledge (one signature per family/household) between January 1st-January 31st, 2021
     
  • Pledges may be signed by parents, teachers, and/or school administrators/staff from any K-8 School in Sonoma County. 
     

Signed pledges will be entered into a drawing for one of eight $50.00 gift cards to a local business of choice! Gift cards have been donated by the Sonoma County Spare the Air Resource Team and one of our January Sponsors, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.  

Winner will be announced in February, and winners will choose which local business to purchase the $50.00 gift card from.

JOIN US IN CELEBRATING WALK & ROLL FOR WHEELS MONTH THIS DECEMBER! 
 

We may not be walking or rolling to school right now, but physical activity is even more essential to health during these challenging times! This December, we challenge you to get outside, explore your neighborhoods, and complete one or more of our Walk & Roll for Wheels Scavenger Hunts for a chance to win a skateboard, scooter, or roller skates!  

 

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN WALK & ROLL FOR WHEELS MONTH:
 

1.    JOIN US ON WALK & ROLL TO ANYWHERE DAY!
 

  • On ANY ONE DAY during the FIRST WEEK OF DECEMBER, choose a destination to walk, bike, scooter or skateboard to. It can be ANY destination, whether it is to your school campus, a local park, a store, a friend's house, or just a walk around the neighborhood and back to your home!
     
  • Your survey results will be shared with your school to discover how many kids walked & rolled, how far kids from your school traveled, and which teacher had the highest percentage of student's who walked & rolled that week!  The elementary AND middle school teacher with the highest percentage of participating students will win a $50.00 gift card to their local business of choice!
     

2.   COMPLETE AND SUBMIT AT LEAST ONE OF OUR DECEMBER SCAVENGER HUNT ACTIVITIES FOR ONE OR MORE CHANCES TO WIN A SCOOTER, SKATEBOARD, or ROLLER SKATES!
 

DECEMBER SCAVENGER HUNT INSTRUCTIONS:
 

  • Download the FILLABLE Scavenger Hunt Packets:  Elementary School/K-6th Packet (English PDF) (Spanish PDF)  Middle School/5th-8th Packet (English PDF) (Spanish PDF)
     
  • Do one OR more Scavenger Hunts in your packet - each submitted hunt is an entry into our drawing
     
  • You do not have to find every single thing on the Scavenger Hunt - find as much as you can and submit when you have found all you can.
     
  • Submit to Safe Routes to School (may be submitted via email or the mail) and received no later than Friday 1/8/21.
