International Walk & Roll to School Challenge Month

JOIN US IN CELEBRATING INTERNATIONAL WALK & ROLL TO SCHOOL MONTH THIS OCTOBER!

October is International Walk & Roll to School Month! Join us - and kids from all over the world - on International Walk & Roll to School DAY on Wednesday, October 7th (or an alternative date of your school's choice).  We also encourage you to walk & roll to school or anywhere (from home or from a drop-off spot a reasonable distance away from school), as often as you can this school year, and to complete our "Be A Walk & Roll Advertiser" Challenge inspire others to safely walk, bike, scoot, or skate to/from school!

Schools, please REGISTER HERE to participate in Sonoma County's event and receive printed posters, swag, and be included on the list of schools sent to law enforcement and the media!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN INTERNATIONAL WALK & ROLL TO SCHOOL MONTH:

1.    PARTICIPATE IN YOUR SCHOOL'S INTERNATIONAL WALK & ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY EVENT! Your school may celebrate on Wednesday October 7th, or they may choose an alternative date. On that day, travel to school by your human power - walk, bike, scooter, skateboard, skates, unicycles, wheelchair - either from home or from a drop-off spot at least a ~10 minute walk from school.  And have fun!

2.   COMPLETE AND SUBMIT OUR OCTOBER "BE A WALK & ROLL ADVERTISER" CHALLENGE ACTIVITY FOR FUN AND INSPIRATION!

  • Download the "Be a Walk & Roll Advertiser" Challenge Sheet:  English PDF   Spanish PDF  English JPG  Spanish JPG
  • Think about or discuss with your parents or teacher the many reasons why we love Walk & Roll to School Days, like getting exercise, being outdoors, cutting down on traffic, reducing pollution and having fun.
  • Read about or discuss with your parents or teacher how to be safe while traveling to/from school.
  • Either on your own or with a partner, create EITHER a poster that encourages students to participate in an upcoming Walk & Roll to School Day, OR a poster that educates students about how to be safe while doing so.
  • Hang your poster in your classroom and/or around school to help advertise both safe practices & the benefits of walking & rolling.
  • Take a picture of your artful Walk & Roll advertisement at your school (or have your parent or teacher take it), post it on Instagram or Facebook, tag @sonomacountysaferoutes, and we'll share it Countywide!
